My resume

Trulioo

July 2022–Present

At Trulioo, I’ve moved from proficiency to mastery of content strategy. As content marketing editor, I play a critical role on the team that completed a full-scale corporate rebrand to position Trulioo for global growth and leadership in digital identity verification.

I spearheaded a complete messaging overhaul of the Trulioo content library of more than 100 assets, including white papers, buyer’s guides and solution sheets. I guided a team of writers in rebuilding the entire Trulioo website from scratch and created the company’s writing and editorial style guide to ensure consistency in tone, grammar and usage across all content.

I set themes for integrated campaigns and execute content creation to support them. I’m the architect of Trulioo’s highest-performing campaign and content. I write or edit every piece of external-facing content, including emails, blogs, ads, in-depth quarterly reports and press releases.

I lead and coach our writers every day and recruit and manage our freelancers. My role requires working across every content-delivery channel and every department discipline, including product marketing, events and public relations.

As the company’s most experienced writer, I ghostwrite for our C-suite, producing dozens of thought leadership bylines, and conduct customer interviews for case studies. I’m an essential player in building an AI-enhanced content ecosystem to fuel demand generation, support the Trulioo sales team and promote our executives.

When the product marketing team faced an overwhelming task of revising messaging and positioning for all solutions, I stepped in to represent one of our product lines in creating a pitch-deck library designed for the full sales cycle. At Trulioo, I have excelled in a fast-paced position that requires the ability to turn on a dime for a new priority and the drive to take on any role to help the team succeed.

ID.me

December 2021–June 2022

My time at ID.me was short, but it was fast-paced and exciting. I was hired as a senior content writer but quickly realized the marketing department lacked the foundational elements for creating clear, concise, error-free content.

I worked with leadership to redesign my role so I could build the department’s content foundation and collaborated with the legal department to ensure content adhered to strict standards. I created the company’s writing style and usage standards manual, marketing content calendar, and workflow templates for all thought leadership and collateral content. In addition to writing, I was the primary editor for all marketing external-facing content, including short- and long-form copy, and ushered projects through the workflow I developed, from idea to completion.

ID.me reorganized in June 2022, laying off 133 employees, including most of the marketing department.

Fiserv

October 2016–November 2021

My role as a senior writer presented the perfect opportunity to apply the storytelling and editing skills I mastered during a 20-year journalism career to a new format and audience. The most important step for me was learning the topic, and I developed a comprehensive understanding of the financial services industry, both how it is today and where it will go with digital transformation.

I regularly wrote on deadline, easily adjusted to shifting priorities and used my reporting experience to turn complicated fintech concepts into clear and understandable thought leadership articles. My superior skills as a writer and editor also created opportunities for me to coach other writers in the company on tone, voice, storytelling techniques, and AP and house style.

My primary focus at Fiserv was conceptualizing, writing and editing thought leadership blogs, articles, white papers and point-of-view papers. My role expanded to include crafting content strategy and goals, managing projects through Workfront and posting stories to our CMS.

I was on a small, closely knit team in a large company and understood that working across departments meant listening and learning before acting. That approach helped me develop strong relationships across the company and helped Fiserv create powerful content.

WisPolitics.com

February 2015–September 2016

In my role as senior reporter, I covered all things political in the Wisconsin Capitol. That included hearings, votes, floor sessions, press conferences and, for a brief period, Gov. Scott Walker’s presidential run.

The online publication delivered three products per day to a broad spectrum of Capitol insiders. Each day, I wrote for and edited each of those products. Our PM Update was the equivalent of our daily newspaper.

On Fridays, we replaced that update with our Friday Report, which was our version of a Sunday newspaper. For that publication, I focused on in-depth enterprise stories that dove deeper into Wisconsin’s political world.

The Daily Reporter Publishing Co., Milwaukee

October 1999–February 2015
My time working for The Daily Reporter and its parent company, The Dolan Co., was one of the most challenging, rewarding periods of my career. The newspaper published in print and online Monday through Friday and reported for a statewide audience of construction, business and government professionals.

I was hired as a reporter in 1999 to start a Madison bureau with a state government beat.

In 2002, I proposed the company start a monthly magazine, Wisconsin Builder. I led the development of the magazine as editor for six years.

In early 2008, I took over as editor of The Daily Reporter. The position pushed me to grow as a leader, excel as an editor and commit to driving thousands of miles while I split my time managing the Milwaukee and Madison newsrooms.

In 2011, I accepted another promotion, managing all publications for the company and directing staff members for The Daily Reporter and Wisconsin Law Journal. As editor of those publications, I managed a team of eight journalists who reported for print and online.

Every day, I edited copy, directed all publications, and mentored reporters and editors. Writing is my first love, but nothing beats coaching a reporter and then watching him or her succeed.

North Adams Transcript, North Adams, Massachusetts

September 1998–September 1999
I was hired as a staff reporter for this daily newspaper in northwest Massachusetts. Within two months I was the lead reporter with the primary city beat, covering cops, courts and city government.

I left the job because my wife and I, after several years away from friends and family in Wisconsin, were homesick. Upon returning to Madison, I spent a month as a freelance writer for the Wisconsin State Journal, the Isthmus and The Daily Reporter before accepting a full-time position.

The Camden Herald, Camden, Maine

September 1996–September 1998
I was a staff reporter for this weekly newspaper, covering cops, courts and town government.

Community Newspapers Inc., Milwaukee

June 1995–September 1996
I was a staff reporter for this newspaper group in the suburbs of Milwaukee.

Education

I earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in 1995.

In October 2010, I graduated from the Dolan Leadership Institute, a 10-month training program on management, editorial, advertising, marketing, public speaking and budgeting.

Awards

I have won many awards as a writer and editor. One in particular stands out. In 2008, I won The Dolan Co.’s Outstanding Contributions Award. I had directed a team of 20 Dolan journalists nationwide on a series of stories on the U.S. Green Building Council and its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification. The series took months to complete and ran in newspapers across the country.
